that Quincy. Tho' let's face it, if the mighty Jack Klugman had had his own comic strip back in the Bronze Age, we'd've been all over that like a cheap suit.
This Quincy is the story of a tenement kid and his philosophical musings, ran from 1970 to 1986, and was by Ted Shearer, making it one of the first newspaper strips about a black protagonist by a black creator. It's gentle and upbeat, and has a masterful sense of evocation, which is really why I like it, as you are absolutely there in '70's Harlem with Quincy and his pals.
Liked a lot of the lost newspaper strips here, ( Conchy, Friday Foster and so on. ) I reckon it deserves a glossy reprint.
