E-Man In: The Energy Crisis

Well, it would appear as if Spring is finally here, what with the sun being out and everybody going out without their coats.
That must mean it's time to read an issue of E-Man, surely the sunniest, pleasantest superhero of the Bronze Age.
This time round, our intergalactic visitor might as well be labelled Environmental Man, as he tackles new arch enemy Samuel Boar, his energy sucking robot The Battery, and the whole '70's fuel crisis issue. Not to mention lecturing the reader about looking after the planet in the final panel.
But at least, like on the cover where he helpfully tells us what's happening, he does it in a nice, E-Man kinda way.

The Six Million Dollar Man: The Effigy

Nic Cuti and Joe Staton didn't just work on the wonderful E-Man while at Charlton of course, the team also did a few early issues of Steve Austin's adventures, like here behind a Neal Adams cover.
Waitaminute, how did Charlton get the contract for The Six Million Dollar Man? Were Marvel asleep at the wheel? Well, maybe it was this tale that swung the deal.
It's a fun, action-packed techhno-voodoo adventure that delights in some great early Staton art, but it's the breathtakingly blatant advertising for the Steve Austin doll ( hem hem I mean 'action figure' ) that sticks in the memory.
As if the unsubtle plotline wasn't enough, check out that last panel.

E-Man: The City Swallower

Time to see what comic's most lovable superhero is up to on this hot summer's day. Well, like all right thinking people, E-Man and Nova are down on the beach. Wait, is there a beach near the Charlton offices? Well, this is E-Man, anything's possible.
