Now here's a bit of a lost classic I bet most people have completely forgotten about. Yes, there's a fight scene. Yes, it's an early Frank Miller, lushly inked by Bob McLeod. But the reason it's great is the reason Marvel is great. We love these characters ( well, I could never get into Wonder Man's safari jacket look, but still ) and we're just happy to watch them hang out. Frank and a fight scene is just icing on the cake.
I mean, of course Ben & Nick play poker together. Of course Jarvis is the dealer. And of course they invite Hank, who brings along Wondy to make up the numbers. The only thing missing is Hawkeye bringing the whisky.
There's also some neat little touches in the art. Notice how on p.5, Ms. Marvel's hair suddenly looks like it's turned into a feather boa, like she's Angie Dickinson guest-starring on Maverick or something.
